The shoe spectacular took place in Prague on 13 – 14 April at the historic Zofin Palace, as Bata celebrated its 125th anniversary. From Malaysia, well-known celebrities Amyra Rosli (IG: @aamyrarosli) and Amar Baharin (IG: @amarbaharin) attended the 2-day extravaganza.
The lights were low, the anticipation high, and all eyes were focused on the animated beating heart entwined in the ‘B’ of Bata featured on the stage’s backdrop. As the audience became mesmerized by the beating heart, the DJ dropped some beats and models strutted onto the catwalk with an explosion of energy. This was the Bata Fashion Weekend; the global footwear giant’s annual extravaganza.
While ushering in its 125th year of shoeing the world, the brand used its Bata Fashion Weekend as a platform to showcase its latest ranges and collections. This was similarly done last year when the stunning event took place in Milan. Meanwhile, this year’s event took place in the birthplace of Bata, Prague, and witnessed a selection of the latest designs, while people across the world tuned in via Facebook live stream.
“The Bata Fashion Weekend 2019 was truly a spectacular event! We are absolutely proud to be appointed as Bata Malaysia’s brand ambassador for this campaign,” stated Amyra Rosli, locally renowned actress, who graced the event alongside her celebrity husband Amar Baharin.
Amar added, “This is our first time in Prague and we’re honoured to be able to witness all the excitement of BFW first-hand. It’s amazing to see that Bata has successfully evolved with the times.”
TRENDY DIVERSE COLLECTIONS
Themed ‘The Evolution of Style’, the fashion footwear company showcased its premium Italian Collection, designed and produced in Italy using the finest quality leathers and the Italian flair for fashion design. The Chinese Collection made its premier this year, featuring a range using classic Bata designs but with a fresh twist and contrasting, vibrant colours, while the Asia Pacific collection showcased beautiful and bang on-trend designs with its use of animal and floral prints.
Bata’s fast-fashion range, Red Label, was up-to-the-minute in terms of design and clearly built for style, with the ever-evolving range featuring the latest design cues and aesthetics.
Drawing on its 125-year history, Bata’s Heritage range featured retro kicks with a contemporary spin – its latest collaboration with the iconic Coca-Cola. The audiences were also treated to a sneak peek of the latest sneakers from one of Bata’s brands, Power. The Power Mello, with its marshmallow-like sole, will be launched globally after the Bata Fashion Weekend.
FASHION TECHNOLOGIES AT ITS BEST
Bata focuses heavily on technologies in its offerings. According to the brand, this is the element that makes Bata shoes more comfortable and functional. The technology offerings displayed in Prague were Bata Flexible (smart-casual featuring ultra-flexible outsoles, assuring greater flexibility and giving a more comfortable walk), Bata Light (light as a feather, trendy, informal and comes with built-in shock absorption and unbeatable comfort), and Bata Insolia (a dressy and chic range which improves posture, balance and extends wear-time for medium to high heels).
Aside from the jaw-dropping catwalk shows, Bata also exhibited its shoes in a separate hall – allowing audiences to get up close and personal with the pieces that had wow-ed them from the stage. There was also a pop-up museum which displayed items, vintage shoes and movies from Bata’s 125-year history.
To commemorate its milestone 125th anniversary, the renowned shoemaker presented an exclusive elegant capsule collection which is set to be launched in October 2019.
BATA YOUNG DESIGNERS’ CHALLENGE
The Bata Young Designers’ Challenge is an annual contest where students compete to produce the winning design. This year, the contest saw top design talents from universities in Italy, Kenya and the Czech Republic compete to design and produce a prototype sneaker. The winning shoes, chosen by a panel of judges at Bata Fashion Weekend, will be put into production and sold across the world at selected Bata stores.
Jana Barbati Chadova, Head of Global Marketing for Bata and the person leading the organizing team, expressed, “I feel so proud and honoured to be part of this. Showing our amazing shoes in such a historical venue, and to see all the smiles on the faces of our audience, it was so special. Honestly.” Borrowing a line off the brand’s tagline, she added, “I feel quite emotional, but Comfortable With It.”
Amyra Rosli currently stars in TV3’s popular local drama Nur 2, alongside other reputable names such as Syafiq Kyle & Fatimah Abu Bakar. The drama’s prequel recently nabbed several awards at the Anugerah Drama Festival Kuala Lumpur 2019 – Choice Drama & Choice Screen Couple for Amyra Rosli & Syafiq Kyle. Meanwhile, Amar Baharin has made his mark in the industry after starring in several telefilms, TV dramas and commercials. His most recent role was in Astro Prima’s Jodoh-Jodoh Annisa where he played the part of Rizal, one of the main characters.
Both Amyra and Amar attended the Bata Fashion Weekend in Red Labels along with select articles from the Italian Collection as well as Bata Malaysia’s upcoming Raya Collection.
