“Little Nights, Little Love” kicks off JFF 2019 in Klang Valley
KUALA LUMPUR — The Japanese Film Festival 2019 officially launched with the South East Asian premiere of “Little Nights, Little Love” by director IMAIZUMI Rikiya.
The Opening Ceremony held at GSC Pavilion KL was attended by some 250 guests with YBrs. Dr. Tan Awang Besar, Undersecretary of the Cultural Policy Division, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture delivering the officiating speech.
“Watching films is probably one of the best ways to learn about the culture, tradition and people of the country where the film comes from, or even to understand ourselves better,” shared YBrs. Dr. Tan.
“This year, we are bringing you a line-up consisting of 13 titles with different genres that is ready to captivate the audiences of all ages, and also for those who are new to the Japanese film,” says Mr. SHIMADA Seiya, Director of The Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur (JFKL) in his speech.
“2019 is a very special year for JFKL as we celebrate our 30th anniversary in Malaysia since our establishment in 1989. This year, JFF plays the major role for our 30th anniversary celebration,” he further adds.
“While 2018 marked the 15th year milestone for the annual Japanese Film Festival in Malaysia, 2019 too marks a special year for The Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur team,” said Mr. Heng Beng Fatt, Deputy General Manager of GSC in his speech.
He further added that the collaboration between GSC JFKL is not limited to this annual Japanese Film Festival alone. “In order to keep Japanese movies fans interest going throughout the year, we work hand in hand for the bi-monthly Japanese Weekend Film Show which is currently free to the public in KL.”
In commemorating the 30th Anniversary celebration, a special anniversary poster was presented to Mr. SHIMADA Seiya by Mr. Heng Beng Fatt as a gift from GSC for the 16 years long close collaboration.
